Fluorite is the mineral form of Calcium fluorite, CaF2. It belongs to the halide minerals family. Fluorite crystalizes in an isometric cubic formation although octahedral and more complex isometric forms are not uncommon.
 
Fluorite crystals formed 150-200 million years ago when hot water containing fluorine and other minerals were forced up through cracks in the earth where it interacted with the calcium – rich limestone bedrock.
